The foreign trade deficit of Lithuania amounted to EUR 242.7 mln in April
Over the month (April 2016, against March), exports decreased by 3.9, imports – by 3.8%. The decrease in exports was influenced by a decrease in exports of petroleum products (26.4%), cereals (28.2%), and fertilisers (20.8%). The decrease in imports was determined by a decrease in imports of machinery and mechanical appliances and parts thereof (7.9%) and electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof (8.2%). Mineral products excluded, exports of goods decreased by 1.2, imports – by 4.7%. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin decreased by 7.2, mineral products excluded – by 1.9%.
Over the year (April 2016, against April 2015), exports decreased by 6, imports – by 11%. The decrease in exports was influenced by a decrease in exports of petroleum products (50.6%), edible fruit and nuts (61.8%), and fertilisers (18.8%). The decrease in imports was determined by a decrease in imports crude oil (46%) and ships, boats and floating structures (96.9%). Mineral products excluded, exports of goods increased by 2.8%, imports – decreased by 3.3%. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin decreased by 9.6%, mineral products excluded – grew by 4.2%.

In January–April 2016, against the same period of 2015, exports decreased by 0.6, imports – by 5%. The decrease in exports was determined by a decrease in exports of petroleum products (26.2%), fertilisers (25.4%), and edible fruit and nuts (52.2%). The decrease in imports was influenced by a decrease in imports of crude oil (27.8%), edible fruit and nuts (42.6%), and ships, boats and floating structures (95%). Due to a decrease in prices, exports of petroleum products and imports of crude oil in value terms decreased, although in terms of amount in tonnes exports grew by 16.3, imports – by 10.2%. Mineral products excluded, exports increased by 4, imports – by 2%. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin decreased by 1.3%, mineral products excluded – grew by 4.3%. Exports to Russia decreased by 6.6, of goods of Lithuanian origin – by 8%, which was mainly conditioned by a decrease in exports of machinery and mechanical appliances and parts thereof (38.2%) and furniture (41.4%); meat and dairy products were not exported. Exports of food and agricultural products (CN sections I–IV) to Russia decreased by 15.3%, of food and agricultural products of Lithuanian origin – increased by 8.8% (in January–April 2015, exports of such products amounted to EUR 18.1 million, in January–April 2016 – EUR 19.7 million).
In January–April 2016, the most important Lithuania's partners in exports were Russia (12.9%), Poland (9.6%), Latvia (9.4%), and Germany (8.1%), while in imports – Germany (12.5%), Russia (11.7%), Poland (11.3%), and Latvia (7.7%). Most of the goods of Lithuanian origin were exported to Germany (10.8%), the United States (9.1%), Poland (7.2%), Sweden (6.9%), and Latvia (6.7%).
In January–April 2016, the largest share in Lithuania's exports and imports fell within machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment (14.7 and 18.3% respectively), products of the chemical and allied industries (11.8 and 13.3% respectively), and mineral products (11.6 and 15.5% respectively). As for the goods of Lithuanian origin, the largest share in exports fell within mineral products (15.5%), miscellaneous manufactured articles (12.5%), and prepared foodstuffs, non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages and tobacco (9%).
