BC, Tallinn, 07.04.2016.Print version
The Estonian government on April 7th approved and put before the parliament the Welfare Development Plan 2016-2023, reports LETA/BNS.

The purpose of the development plan is to create a strategic approach and develop measures and activities that support the independent coping of people; create equal opportunities to participate in the society and labor market; and promote gender equality in all fields of life.

It targets equal economic independence of women and men, balanced participation of women and men in all levels of decision-making and management in politics and public and private sectors, reducing negative impact of gender stereotypes on decisions and everyday life, enhancing rights protection concerning equal treatment of women and men, and ensuring the institutional capacity to promote gender equality.

That Estonia will get a Welfare Development Plan for 2016-2023 has been set out in the government's action plan, and the development plan pursues two overarching goals: high level of employment and long, quality working life; reduction of social inequality and poverty, and gender equality. Achieving of these goals requires the development and implementation of common policy measures. The sectoral development plan provides the necessary framework for that.

In drafting the development plan earlier strategy documents pertaining to the respective field have been taken into account, including recommendations, strategies and guidelines of the European Commission, the United Nations and the Council of Europe.

The development plan is estimated to cost 18.1 billion euros to implement.
