Growth of exports of Lithuanian goods set to accelerate

BC, Vilnius, 10.03.2016.Print version
Growth of exports of Lithuanian goods is set to accelerate this year and next, both due to favorable outlook for the European markets and due to companies’ investment in the expansion of production capacities, informs LETA/BNS.

However, this optimistic outlook faces downside risks and the biggest problem would be the collapse of the Schengen system of open borders, the Verslo Zinios business daily reports on March 10th.

Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin (not including energy products), which last year rose by modest 2.6%, this year are expected to grow by 5% to 11.1 billion euros and next year, by 5.7% to 11.7 billion euros, analysts of Enterprise Lithuania, the government’s export promotion agency, forecast, based on econometric analysis.

“The forecast is rather optimistic and it is based on a stable outlook for Lithuania’s key export markets… Everything is fine in Germany, everything is fine in the Scandinavian countries, in spite of a slight slowdown in Norway, and everything is fine in Poland and Latvia. This means there’s likely to be demand for Lithuanian goods,” Thomas Notten, an analyst with the agency, told the daily.
