Estonian president: 4th industrial revolution requires flexibility

BC, Tallinn, 22.01.2016.Print version
The fourth industrial revolution requires flexibility both from entrepreneurs as well as the state, Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves said when speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, informs LETA/BNS.

Ilves took part along with several heads of government as well as leaders of international organizations and enterprises in a meeting regarding the so-called fourth industrial revolution, spokespeople for the president said. At the meeting it was discussed how governments could support the development of the society with new technological solutions.

"Governments and legislators play an important role in the adoption of new economic models. For instance, the so-called sharing society can successfully launch only when a legal system enables such a form of entrepreneurship. The new revolutionary age requires flexibility not only from entrepreneurs but also from the public sector," Ilves said.

Ilves introduced Estonia as a safe and good economic and investment environment. Entrepreneurs who took part in the meeting showed interest in Estonia's experience regarding creating a reliable infrastructure in cooperation with the private sector, which provides an opportunity for the wide distribution of digital services.

"Estonia's success also lies in the courage of our politicians to quickly carry out painful but necessary reforms right after Estonia's independence had been restored, in the transparency and openness of our governance, reliance on digital solutions and scarce corruption," the head of state said.
