Since the end of 2014, the Ministry of Social Security and Labour of Lithuania has distributed to 500,000 pensioners a total of EUR 82.5 million in compensation for reduced pensions, informs LETA/ELTA.

Compensations distributed in 2014 totalled EUR 32.6 million, in 2015 so far – EUR 49.9 million. Another EUR 16.1 million will be paid out by the end of 2015. Meanwhile, it is projected that EUR 65 million will be transferred in 2016. As a result, the aggregate amount of compensations will total EUR 163.6 million.

Compensations are calculated and distributed based on the Law on the Compensation for State Social Insurance Retirement and Incapacity for Work (Disability) Pensions. People are reimbursed for pensions cut in 2010 and 2011.

According to Social Security and Labour Minister Algimanta Pabedinskiene, other compensations will be paid out starting from June 2016 to people who were employed at the time and whose pensions were reduced twice. This will require additional EUR 120 million.
