The Government of Lithuania approved the new social model on June 9th 2015. Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius hopes the Seimas will adopt it in October, reports LETA/ELTA.

"We would like it to be presented at the Seimas in June, while the discussion would commence in the autumn. It would be very good if the Seimas adopted all the legislation in October," Butkevicius told journalists.

On Tuesday, the Government approved amendments to the Labour Code and other legislation related to labour relations, state social insurance, employment and creation of jobs and will submit them to Parliament.

"We have approved the whole social model, all of the improved legislation. We considered proposals of all ministries today and I am pleased that compromises have been reached (), some proposals were taken into regard others were dismissed," said Butkevicius.

According to the prime minister, the new social model will maintain the same length of holidays for healthcare and education employees. Severance pay has been increased from one monthly wage to two monthly wages. Meanwhile social insurance fee will be reduced by 1 percentage point every year starting with 2017.

The prime minister said that concrete laws would be implemented under the new social model and labour relations between employers and employees would be improved.
