1 in 3 Lithuanians received pensions in 2014

In 2014, the number of recipients of old-age pensions paid by the State Social Insurance Fund (Sodra) decreased by a thousand to 599,600. By the end of 2014, as much as 923,200 people received at least one type of pension, i.e. one in three Lithuanians, writes LETA/ELTA.

According to Statistics Lithuania, in 2014 compared with 2013, the total number of pension recipients decreased by 0.4%.

 

By the end of 2014, 682,500 people received old-age related pensions, including work incapacity (disability) pensions and social assistance pensions. As much as 88% of them, or 599,600, were beneficiaries of state social insurance old-age pensions.

 

In late 2014, 9,900 persons were recipients of state social insurance anticipated old-age pensions, which is paid when no more than 5 years remain to pension age. The number of anticipated old-age pension beneficiaries decreased by 1,100 or 9.8% in 2014 compared with 2013.

 

By the end of 2014, 167,700 persons, or 9% of working-age population, received work incapacity (disability) pensions. The number has not changed significantly in a year.

 

Based on preliminary data, in 2014 compared with 2013, annual expenditure on pensions increased by EUR 25.7 million, or 1%, and totalled EUR 2.5 billion.
