"I really do not understand the purpose of his visit. We have repeatedly stressed during the sittings of the European Council that all member-states of the European Union must speak with one voice. I believe that this recent visit has caused concerns to many member-states of the EU," said Lithuanian PM Algirdas Butkevicius.

Meanwhile, Latvian Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma reminded of the recent sitting of the European Council in March where all members of the EU unanimously, including Greece, voiced their joint position on the conflict in Ukraine and sanctions against Russia.

"The next European Council will be held in June and the common position of Europe will remain unchanged. It is very important that the Baltic States remain united, but it is also important all 28 member-states are united when it comes to the situation in the east," she said.

Estonian Prime Minister Taavi Roivas also highlighted the importance of the EU's unity regarding Russia.

"We can see that we have a force just outside our borders which thinks differently. We, the EU, must stand together and state that we find it unacceptable," he said.

On Friday in Vilnius, the prime ministers of the Baltic Council of Ministers had at an informal meeting.
