The majority of Latvian residents prefer to read printed books, while only a minor part prefers electronic books. Furthermore, 45% say that the daily routine allows them to read for more than two hours a day, according to a survey conducted by publishing house Drukatava.

Drukatava representative Andris Sprogis told LETA that 67% of Latvian residents choose to read printed books, while only 10% read electronic books. When it comes to electronic literature, the majority choose to read only small texts. Longer texts are printed out for more comfortable reading. 45% of respondents spend more than two hours a day reading.

"It is nice to see data which show that almost half of respondents spend more than two hours a day reading. 29% of respondents read for half an hour to one hour, 32% - for more than one hour a day. Furthermore, the hour of the day does not matter - 52% of respondents read whenever they can, while 32% read before going to bed," board member of Drukatava Valdis Jirgens said.

The majority of readers or 32% of respondents choose to read fiction. The second most popular type of reading is Internet and news articles. Meanwhile, 12% of respondents most often read texts written by their friends' on social networks. This could be explained with the fast pace of life and society's wish to receive information faster and easier, the company's representatives indicate.
