"Everywhere in the world we see a strong rise of new economic fields. The state should not be an obstacle to technological innovation. Cooperation with Uber is groundbreaking," Roivas said during the meeting in the U.S.

"Estonians have the world's most innovational digital solutions for communicating with the state. The fact that Estonia has taken up the leader role in supporting sharing economy is another example of how your state sees opportunities in the new economy," Plouffe said.

Estonia is one of the first European countries that is creating a legal framework for regulating ridesharing services.

In addition, the Tax and Customs board in cooperation with Uber has created the world's first possibility for physical persons to automatically declare their income earned with Uber. The cooperation between Estonia and Uber is already an example for several European countries.

Roivas gave Plouffe as a present an Estonian e-resident's card.
