Incidents in Lithuania's electronic space increased by 29% in Q2

In the second quarter of 2015, the National Lithuanian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-LT) under the Communications Regulatory Authority has investigated 9,527 incidents in the electronic space. This is by 29% more compared with the second quarter of 2014, informs LETA/ELTA.

In the second quarter of 2015 compared with the previous quarter, reports by online users decreased by 18.6%. Most incidents, 4,698, arose from security gaps in users' computers. 2,579 incidents were caused by malicious software (viruses, Trojan horses).

 

In 1,278 cases information systems were compromised (accessed without authorisation). Information systems were mostly compromised by automated means when people connected to the internet using vulnerable equipment.

 

In the second quarter of 2015 compared with the previous quarter, the number electronic forgery instances decreased by 3 times to 83 cases. Mostly social websites (facebook.com, vk.com), e-mail websites (gmail.com, yahoo.com) and online payment system PayPal (paypal.com) as well as websites of Lithuanian banks were being faked. Scammers would then use spam or other fraud measures for phishing in order to gain access to log-in information and passwords or other confidential data.
