BC, Riga, 09.01.2020.Print version
Riga International Coach Terminal was evacuated and temporarily closed on Thursday after a wartime shell was found in its territory, Zane Plone, a representative of the Road Transport Directorate, informed LETA.
According to information provided by Plone, the coach terminal is closed to incoming vehicles, so passengers get off the buses outside the terminal's territory. Departures from the coach terminal have also been suspended.
The passengers who will have missed their trips due to the evacuation, will get reimbursed for the cancellations.
Representatives of the State Police confirmed to LETA that an object thought to be a wartime shell has been found at the coach terminal and that evacuation was ordered for security reasons.
The potentially explosive object was found in the territory where the bus stops and railway embankment are situated.
Emergency services, including unexploded ordnance engineers, are currently working on the site.
