Required biofuel content in fuels to rise to 6.4% in Estonia from 2020

Print versionFrom the beginning of 2020, fuel retailers in Estonia are required to have in the fuel sold by them a bio-component equaling at least 10% of the total energy quantity of gasoline and diesel, and no less than 6.4% in each liter of fuel released for consumption, reported LETA/BNS.

At present it is mandatory for fuel retailers here to
have a bio-component equaling at least 6.4% of the total energy quantity in the
gasoline and diesel sold by them.
The new requirement is not expected to remain valid for
long, as the government already has endorsed amendments to the Liquid Fuels Act
making the obligation to add a bio-component to fossil fuels more flexible.
In accordance with the amendment, it would not be necessary
in the future for each liter of fuel released for consumption to contain a
bio-component as it would suffice for suppliers to ensure that biofuel makes up
at least 10% of the total amount of fuel sold across their entire portfolio
over a six-month period.
