Corruption Prevention Bureau (KNAB) officers are carrying out searches at the Riga Tourism Development Bureau (RTDB), informed LETA.

The RTDB Director Guntars Grinvalds told LETA that the Corruption Prevention Bureau officers had probably arrived following his report.

RTDB public relations manager Anna Blaua confirmed to LETA that the Corruption Prevention Bureau officers were at the RTDB to investigate recent "unfounded public allegations".

RTDB board members are not allowed to comment on the ongoing process as well as other investigation-related processes, she said.

The new RTDB chairman of the board Janis Jenzis told LETA that all processes and procedures at the RTDB were transparent, adding that he would provide further information in accordance with law.

LETA has been unable to get in touch with the Corruption Prevention Bureau so far.

As reported, on May 13 last year KNAB carried out urgent investigative actions, which included more than ten searches at various locations, as well as seizure of evidence. The searches were conducted not only in Latvia but also in Germany, Sweden and Spain, seizing a significant amount of evidence, data carriers, as well as excise goods without excise stamps. Several dozen people were questioned as part of the criminal investigation.

According to KNAB estimates, illegal activities of RTAB officials have resulted in losses of at least EUR 300,000.
