Covid-19: Latvia will receive largest shipment of personal protective equipment so far

BC, Riga, 03.04.2020.Print version
This weekend, Latvia is to receive the largest shipment of personal protective equipment so far - 4.5 million masks and 970,000 respirators, as the National Health Service's representative Sintija Gulbe informed LETA.

Next week, the Health Service will continue distributing personal protective equipment also at secondary healthcare institutions, pharmacies, dental practices and family physicians.

Personal protective equipment will also be delivered to other institutions and authorities: the police, State Border Guard, nursing homes' staff.

As reported, earlier this week the government approved the proposal to set up a centralized reserve procurement group at the Defense Ministry, tasking the aforementioned center with making centralized purchases of PPE and disinfectants necessary to curb the spread of the coronavirus. The products will be purchased for all state institutions, creating reserves for at least three months.

The centralized reserve procurement group will be working under the Defense Ministry's supervision and it will include representatives of the State Center for Defense Military Objects and Procurement and the National Armed Forces (NAF), who will be closely working with the State Fire and Rescue Service, the National Health Service and other institutions.

The State Fire and Rescue Service will be keeping a list of prioritized institutions and their procurement needs, while the National Health Service and other health experts will assist with setting quality standards for PPE and disinfection products.
