As part of efforts to stem the spread of the coronavirus in Lithuania, a company has already been allowed to produce hand sanitizer under a facilitated procedure and another ten will be issued with such permits shortly, the government said on Thursday referred LETA/BNS.

"According to the bureaucratic procedure, it took four months for a company to obtain permit and launch the production of the disinfectant liquid. It takes two days now," Government Chancellor Algirdas Stoncaitis told reporters.

"All formulas for the production of that liquid were made available on Monday. Eleven companies, including both major and minor producers, have applied for permits," he said. "They will be issued with permits by the evening."

Health Minister Aurelijus Veryga also confirmed this, saying that when the product reaches the market will depend on the producers.

The ministry is planning to purchase 100 tons of hand sanitizer next week if the Cabinet next Tuesday approves the necessary funding from the state's reserve, he said.

According to the minister, healthcare institutions have a sufficient supply of hand sanitizer, but education and culture institutions are advised to purchase the product in the market when it becomes available.
