Thermo Fisher Scientific Baltic set to launch silica gel production

Thermo Fisher Scientific Baltics, a US-owned Lithuanian producer of medical and scientific equipment, is planning to expand its product range by launching the production of high-purity silica gel this year, according the business daily Verslo Zinios information reported LETA/BNS.

"To our knowledge, no similar production is being developed in the region, so new chemical synthesis competencies will be developed in Vilnius," it quoted Egidijus Jaseliunas, a senior communication manager at Thermo Fisher Scientific Baltics, as saying. 


The annual production capacity is planned to be 800 kilograms of silica gel. The company gives no details as to its planned investment and sales. 


Thermo Fisher Scientific Baltics has reported a net profit of 150.1 mln euros for 2018, up 58.3% from 94.767 mln euros in 2017. 


The Vilnius-based company's annual revenue soared by almost 40% to 294.89 mln euros, according to its 2018 annual report filed with the Center of Registers.


The Lithuanian company's ultimate shareholder is US-based Thermo Fisher Scientific.
