Vehicles with Lithuanian registration plates still have problems with passing into Russia not only from Lithuania but also from Latvia and Belarus. Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius says that Vilnius still has not received any official explanation from Moscow regarding a blockage of Lithuanian vehicles, informs LETA/ELTA.

According to the PM, following Monday's meeting with representatives of ministries and other state institutions it was decided to contact Russia's Border Guard Service as soon as possible and monitor vehicles with registration plates other than Lithuanian which are crossing the Lithuanian border in order to determine whether Russia's restrictions are being applied only against Lithuania or other countries too.

"We are expecting a detailed official message from Russia. We have sent them our inquiries asking to name the reasons for tightening the control of our vehicles and now we expect their official reply anytime soon," Butkevicius said.

As reported, Lithuanian carriers say that they have had problems not only at the Kaliningrad Oblast border but in Russia's internal customs too.

Algimantas Kondrusevicius, president of the Lithuanian National Road Carriers' Association Linava, says that 700 Lithuanian companies operate in Russia and over 8,000 vehicles go from Lithuania to Russia.

Head of Linava could not accurately tell the number of vehicles getting stuck because of the actions of the Russian side, but noted that this problem affects several thousand trailers and companies to which they belong, and they may suffer millions in losses.
