Deputy State Secretary of the Economy Ministry, Andris Liepins has been nominated for the new CEO of Riga International Airport, Transport Minister Anrijs Matiss (Unity) said in an interview with the Latvian Television show "Rita panorama", cites LETA.

According to Matiss, Liepins' candidacy has already been harmonized with the security institutions.

Liepins currently works as the deputy state secretary of the Economy Ministry. He is also the chairman of the council at the national airline airBaltic.

Liepins was one of the founders of the Latvia's Way political party. He was a Saeima member in 1994, replacing Romans Apsitis. He also run in Saeima elections in 1995, but was not elected.

As reported, four board members at the Riga International Airport – Aldis Murnieks, Olita Augustovska, Andis Damlics, and Raimonds Rozkalns – submitted their resignation letters on Tuesday, November 11.

Board member Ilona Lice remains in her job.

Taking into account that the Transport Ministry, which holds the government's shares in the airport, and the board of the Riga Airport had long-time disagreements on several management processes in the company, the ministry has decided to accept the said resignation letters following a mutual agreement.

The airport operated last year with a EUR 47.3 million turnover and EUR 601,365 profit. The airport provided service to a total of 4.79 million passengers last year.
