Latvian Transport Minister Anrijs Matiss (Unity), who is expected to stay on as minister in the next government, says that his main priority in the next government is to straighten out Latvia's road system by guaranteeing long-term road construction and maintenance financing, and improving the quality of road construction, cites Nozare.lv.

As LETA was informed by the Transport Ministry, the financing for road maintenance and construction has been defined in the State Road Maintenance and Construction Program 2014-2020.

On the other hand, the minister intends to improve road construction quality by implementing an affective quality monitoring policy, which will monitor all of the stages of road construction, from projecting all the way to road maintenance.

Matiss also intends to straighten out the passenger rail system in Latvia. He hopes to improve the comfort of rail transportation for passengers, modernize infrastructure and reduce operational costs.
