"The successful transit of NATO ISAF cargoes through Lithuania, thanks to intensive business and political ties between Lithuania and the US, must become an impulse to develop new cooperation forms with the US in the area of logistics," noted Minister Linkevicius.

Paul J. Selva commended the well developed Lithuanian transportation and logistics infrastructure, especially the modern Klaipeda Seaport and railways. He said that Lithuania's transportation capacity and experience will be taken into account in the future, when composing US military logistics plans.

Linkevicius invited the Commander of USTRANSCOM to make greater use of Lithuania's transportation and logistics infrastructure.

On Wednesday the General also met with President Dalia Grybauskaite, Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius, Chief of Defence of Lithuania Jonas Vytautas Zukas, Minister of Transport and Communications Rimantas Sinkevicius.

It is the third such visit of the high-ranking US officer in Lithuania organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of National Defence, the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the US Embassy in Lithuania. The visits are intended to introduce Lithuanian transport infrastructure's achievements and to continue develop relations with the US partners.

Lithuania started transporting NATO ISAF cargoes via the NDN Northern Line of Communication (from Klaipeda Seaport through Belarus, Russia and Central Asia to Afghanistan) in 2008.
