The words of Urve Palo, who will become the economy and infrastructure minister of the new Estonian government coalition, that she considers the bankruptcy of Estonia's national carrier Estonian Air probable, caused panic among clients of Estonian Air, LETA/Postimees Online reports.

Urve Palo.

"Estonian Air's clients are contacting the company en masse and asking for ticket fees back," said Estonian Air's council member Erki Urva. "At the same time the company operates exactly like its plans were. The restructuring plan has been approved of and followed more or less," he added.

"Currently our company needs all kind of support from the owners," said Urva. "In the business world, something like that never happens that one owner of the company would want to harm its company."

The future minister, Social Democratic MP Urve Palo said yesterday that during the seven-year term of office of outgoing economy and communications minister Juhan Parts, Estonian Air has in essence been led to the verge of bankruptcy and there is high likelihood that the European Commission won't allow granting state aid to the company either. "Thus we can assume that it will go bankrupt. I don't want to cause panic but as a minister I have to be ready that the state aid permit won't arrive from the European Commission," Palo told Delfi Ärileht.
