Cheap flights company Ryanair which has been carrying passengers from and to Kaunas airport has announced that as of Wednesday, November 7 it removes routes from Kaunas, therefore out of more than 20 only 4 routes remain – London, Bristol, Dublin, Frankfurt.

Kaunas hotels and other catering companies that were providing services for incoming tourists are worried that the hard times are about to hit them. In some Kaunas hotels Ryanair passengers made 1 – 2 thirds of all the guests, writes LETA.

On Wednesday news agency ELTA asked Adviser of Transport and Communication minister, former Kaunas City Mayor whether the attitude of the Ministry was not changing towards Ryanair after having seen the current Ryanair actions. Mikaitis said that the position has not changed.

"The strategy is not changing definitely. It defined the perspectives; it clearly states that Kaunas airport is first of all the airport of cheap flights. However, attempts of the Transport and Communication Ministry to negotiate with Ryanair to keep its position in Kaunas city did not bring any positive results. The talks began when it switched the first three routes from Kaunas to Vilnius," says the adviser.
