PM: CAF and Pasazieru vilciens must not sign such contract that will not allow Latvia to receive cohesion funds

Latvia cannot risk Pasazieru vilciens (PV) signing such a contract with Construcciones y Auxiliares de Ferrocariles S.A. (CAF) that will result in a financial adjustment, as a result Latvia may fail to receive, fully or partly, the European Union's cohesion funds, Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis (Unity) told reporters yesterday.

Dombrovskis reminded that, according to the European Commission, the contract's previous version that was offered to CAF contained several deviations from procurement requirements. If the situation remains unchanged, a financial adjustment will be made and Latvia will (partially or fully) not receive the bloc's cohesion funds, pointed out the prime minister, writes LETA.

As reported, today is the final day when CAF and Pasazieru vilciens are to reach agreement on amending their train procurement contract.

On September 26, Pasazieru vilciens submitted a letter to CAF, where five amendments to the train procurement contract were specified. CAF said that it would be reviewing the amendments through October 2, although this is the day when Pasazieru vilciens contract with CAF expires.
