Grybauskaite: purchase of helicopters out of renovation money is a mistake

Danuta Pavilenene, BC, Vilnius, 03.09.2012.Print version
Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite criticised the Government for its actions in the field of apartment renovation, reports LETA/ELTA, referring to DELFI.lt.

"I am convinced that the Government struggled with the renovation programme the most and it was the worst implemented project, therefore something else should not be done on its expense," says Grybauskaite.

The president pointed out that the need for helicopter is undoubted but the Government is looking for necessary funds in the wrong place.

"I would like to confirm that the helicopters are really necessary. However, another source for funds should have been found, "says Grybauskate.

ELTA has previously reported that Lithuanian Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius said that it was a logical step to use European Union's (EU) funds for the other purposes than it was originally planned. In this case to use the EU's money for the procurement of new helicopters, even though it was initially intended for the renovation of block apartments.

"If one programme fails to use the EU funds efficiently, the money from that programme is transferred to the other projects," said the PM.
