This year, the sum of LTL 916 million (EUR 265.5 million) will be allocated from Lithuanian state budget for the development of road network and implementation of traffic safety measures, the Transport Ministry said.

Together with EU support funding, which will make LTL 270 million (EUR 78 million), the total sum of investment to the national roads will reach almost LTL 1.2 billion (EUR 0.35 billion), reports LETA/ELTA.

"Investments of this year will remain on the same level as in 2011. However the priorities of their addressing will be slightly different. Considering a comparatively good condition of the main national roads, the prime attention in 2012 will be paid to regional roads going via minor towns and settlements", said Eligijus Masiulis, Minister of Transport and Communications.

In regard to traffic safety this year's funding of pedestrian and bicycle paths will grow more than twice. Furthermore, almost LTL 31.5 million (EUR 9 million) will be allocated to the implementation of various road traffic safety programmes and education activities.
