Print versionIn 2012, individuals will be able to transport 40 cigarettes and a liter of alcohol across Latvia's borders without paying taxes only once a week, according to amendments to the Law on Excise Tax that Saeima passed in the second and final reading today.

Until January 1, 2012, when the law will come into force, it will still be possible to carry the same amount of cigarettes and alcohol over the country's borders without paying taxes each day, just as before, writes LETA.
The amendments will ensure that these tax breaks will not be misused. They are also part of 2012 budget consolidation measures.
