Traffic safety campaign "Steer Sober!" launched in Latvia

Today, the Road Traffic Safety Directorate of Latvia (CSDD), in cooperation with Transport and Interior ministries and the State Police, launched a traffic safety campaign "Steer Sober!", Nozare.lv was informed by CSDD representative Alise Kleinberga.

This will be the first traffic safety campaign in Latvia to address cyclists and mopedists. Automobile drivers will also receive their share of attention, informs LETA.

 

In 2010, the traffic accidents caused by intoxicated drivers claimed 22 lives. 317 were injured. The penalties for drunk driving are severe, unfortunately, they do not prevent people from driving under the influence of alcohol, said Kleinberga.

 

The opening event will be held this afternoon at Mukusalas Street 91.

 

Transport Minister Uldis Augulis (Union of Greens and Farmers), CSDD Chairman Andris Lukstins and State Police Prevention Department Chief Edmunds Zivtins will participate in the press conference.
