The number of damages regulated without the statement from the police in Lithuania is speedily growing and has already reached 65% of all damages in the light of the new simplified order for the regulation of damage, which came into force in April 2008.

As of April this year, in case drivers get into a minor traffic accident, they no longer have to call the traffic police unless there are people injured in the car accident, reports ELTA.

In the light of the new order of the registration of minor traffic accidents, the police in Vilnius are called to the scene of traffic accidents fivefold less frequently, in the entire Lithuania this figure has decreased threefold compared to the previous year.

However, according to insurance companies, in the light of the reduction of the calls for the police, the number of registered minor damages has advanced. The number of minor damages, usually amounting to approximately 200 litas (57.88 euros), has advanced 10% compared to the same period in 2007.
