Economy minister Kampars blames Slesers for rift between government and airBaltic

Latvian Economy Minister Artis Kampars, speaking on the LNT morning new show, said that former Transport Minister Ainars Slesers is to blame for the dismal situation with airBaltic, whose "unilateral signing" of the shareholders' agreement blocks the government's influence in its national airline.

Previous reports had Transport Ministry State Secretary Nils Freivalds as saying that it was he who signed the concluded cooperation agreement with shareholders in March of 2009, writes LETA.

Kampars rejected criticism that the Dombrovskis government has "re-confirmed" the shareholders agreement, explaining that in fact a number of points the government managed to change and increase the authority of the company's council. Bertolt Flick, the company's owner, refused to permit any other changes, the minister pointed out. As a result, the state has no influence whatsoever in airBaltic's operations.

He underlined that Slesers and his "unfair [Riga airport service fee] discount policy" are also the reason for the conflict between airBaltic and the airport.
