Turnover of LDz Cargo down 36.9% in H1

LDz Cargo, the rail freight shipping subsidiary of Latvijas Dzelzcels (Latvian Railways) national rail company, in the first six months of 2020 turned over EUR 81.633 million, down 36.9% from the respective period last year, and posted EUR 4.592 million in loss, writes LETA, according to the company's financial statement.

Domestic cargo transportation in the reporting period rose by 5.6% to EUR 639,000 tons, export cargos accounted for 1.118 million tons, down 7.1%, land transit cargos declined 38.6% to 1.4 million tons, and import cargos dropped 52.8% to 8.407 million tons.


Overall cargo transportation in the first six months of this year declined by 10.351 million tons or 47.2% to 11.563 million tons.


The company also provides international passenger transportation services on the routes from Riga to St.Petersburg, Moscow, Minsk, Kyiv and Vilnius. In the first six months of this year, LDz Cargo carried by 79% fewer passengers year-on-year. The drop in passengers is related with travel restrictions due to Covid-19 pandemic.


In in the first six months of 2019, LDz Cargo turned over EUR 253.074 million and made a EUR 2.785 million profit.
