Reconstruction of Parnu airport starts

Reconstruction works totaling 13.9 million euros in the air traffic area of the airport of the southwestern Estonian resort city Parnu started at the end of July, the regional Parnu Postimees writes, cites LETA/BNS.

"The first works started include the peeling of the soil near the runway, removal of the concrete pavement of the runway and deforestation," TREV-2 Grupp project manager Indrek Trei told the publication.


At the beginning of July, Tallinn Airport announced that it had signed an agreement on the reconstruction of the air traffic area of Parnu airport with the companies AS TREV-2 Grupp and Wesico Project OU, which had made a joint bid.


The duration of the construction works is 14 months and according to the initial plan, the works will be completed in August 2021.


During the works, a runway measuring 1,970 meters by 30 meters will be reconstructed, taxiways will be widened, the aircraft apron will be reconstructed, an automatic weather monitoring system will be installed, the airport lighting system will be updated and a new maintenance and rescue equipment hangar will be built.


According to the current project, the terminal building will be expanded by approximately 900 square meters, offering the possibility to serve approximately 80 arriving and 80 departing passengers simultaneously.
