Estonian bus operator Lux Express to reopen Tartu-Riga route

BC, Riga, 02.07.2020.Print version
Estonian bus operator Lux Express is to reopen the Tartu-Riga bus route from July 8, trips will initially take place until the end of the summer, but the route may stay open all year round if there is demand, reported LETA/BNS.

The bus will depart every morning at 6:25 a.m. from Tartu to Riga and at 6:45 p.m. from Riga to Tartu. The bus will make a stop at Valga on the border of Estonia and Latvia in both directions. The end stop of the route is at Riga Airport, Lux Express said.

"The Tartu-Riga route was directly related to our departures to Russia, so that passengers could get from Riga via Tartu to either St. Petersburg or Moscow. As the eastern border will remain closed for an unknown period of time, we hope that there will be enough passengers between Riga and Tartu even without the opportunity to continue the journey east," Rait Remmel, head of Lux Express' international business, said in a press release.

Remmel added that passengers have started to move actively on the Vilnius-Warsaw route, which was reopened two weeks ago, but the recovery to the level prior to the emergency situation in international business may take even longer than expected.
