Estonian new car sales drop 62.2% in May y-o-y

The number of new cars sold in Estonia in May, 1,060, was smaller by 62.2% than the number of new cars sold in May 2019, but bigger by over 200 units than in April of this year, figures provided by the Estonian car dealers and service companies association AMTEL show, cites LETA/BNS.

Altogether 7,531 new cars were sold in the first five months of this year, which is 34.6% less than in the same period of last year.


By segment, medium SUVs made up the best-selling segment with a share of 25.3%. Smaller medium cars were in second place with 23.1%. Hybrid cars sold during the month numbered 139, electric cars 25 and CNG-powered cars 54.


Skoda emerged as the best-selling brand of car in Estonia in May with 204 units sold. Toyota was in second place with 174 units and Renault third with 101 units sold.


Among models, Toyota RAV4 topped the list with 83 units, followed by Skoda Octavia and Renault Clio with 74 and 58 units, respectively. 


The market for utility vehicles saw a decline with 34.7% less brand new utility vehicles sold in the first five months of this year than in the corresponding period last year. In May,  239 brand new utility vehicles were sold. The best-selling manufacturers were Citroen with 73 utility vehicles sold during May, followed by Peugeot and Renault with respectively 44 and 35 units.
