Pasazieru Vilciens rail company to reopen Riga-Valga-Riga route on Saturday

BC, Riga, 15.05.2020.Print version
Since the governments of the Baltic states have decided to reopen the countries' internal borders for free travel of their citizens and residents, Latvia's Pasazieru Vilciens rail company is resuming service on its Riga-Valga-Riga route as of this Saturday, the company's representative Agnese Licite informed LETA.

The route was shortened to Riga-Lugazi-Riga on March 17 when Latvia banned international passenger transportation due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Starting this Saturday, May 16, trains will be running again from Riga to Valga and back twice a day both on weekdays and weekends. The first Estonia-bound train will depart from the Riga Central Station at 10:34 and will arrive in Valga at 13:29. From there, passengers can travel to Tartu or Tallinn on trains operated by Estonian rail company Elron.

The 10-day train schedule available on Pasazieru Vilciens' website and mobile app already features said changes.

Pasazieru Vilciens was established in 2001 to separate domestic passenger services from other functions performed by the state-owned Latvijas Dzelzcels (Latvian Railway). Although initially Pasazieru Vilciens was a 100% owned subsidiary of the Latvian Railway, in October 2008 it was transformed into an independent state-owned company.
