Ventspils port terminals see 41.7% drop in cargo turnover in Q1
Of the cargo handled by the port's terminals in the three months, liquid cargo accounted for 2.368 tons, down 13.9% from the respective period in previous year. Bulk cargo shrank 4.2 times to 703,000 tons and general cargo declined 0.2% to 653,000 tons.
In March 2020, cargo handling in Ventspils fell 48.8% to 1.043 mln tons. Liquid cargo accounted for 513,000 tons of this amount, down 40.8% on year, bulk cargo reduced 3.2 times to 296,000 tons, and general cargo rose 1.7% on year to 234,000 tons.
During the first quarter of 2020, the port handled 354 ships, down 18.2% from the same period a year ago. Of the vessels served at the port in the first three months of this year 255 were dry cargo ships and 99 tankers.
Ventspils is Latvia's second largest port by cargo turnover.
