Tallinna Sadam, City of Tallinn sign memorandum concerning the Old City Harbor

The listed state owned Estonian port company Tallinna Sadam (Port of Tallinn) signed a memorandum of understanding with the City of Tallinn for the development of the Old City Harbor area according to the Masterplan 2030 development plan, informs LETA/BNS.

AS Tallinna Sadam and the urban planning department of the City of Tallinn signed a memorandum of understanding, declaring mutual interest of the parties in developing Old City Harbor area into a modern, attractive and lively city center, with high-quality public space. According to the memorandum of understanding, Tallinna Sadam and the urban planning department of the City of Tallinn will make a joint effort to implement the Old City Harbor development plan Masterplan 2030, which was composed by architectural bureau Zaha Hadid Architects in 2017, considering the principles of the Tallinn Seaside Vision, Tallinna Sadam told the stock exchange.


Ignar Fjuk, head of the urban planning department of the City of Tallinn, said that when planning the area, it is necessary to base it on the presumption that the population of Tallinn will increase by up to 50,000 people in the next decade. "When developing the heart of the city and the seaside, it is necessary to design a city center that is diverse architecturally and in terms of use, attractive, accessible and lively with a high-level public space," he said.


The memorandum of understanding provides that Tallinna Sadam and City of Tallinn will establish a joint council, the task of which will be to advise Tallinna Sadam on spatial planning and urban development in preparing the detailed plans of the Old City Harbor area. The next step in implementing Masterplan 2030 is arranging a public procurement for engaging a partner to draft the detailed plans for the area and apply for the initiation of proceedings for such detailed plans.
