Riga Airport receives certificate confirming compliance with EU’s new requirements
In accordance with the EU regulation, all airports in EU member states are
expected to complete the certification process by December 31, 2017. The
regulation sets legal and regulatory safety requirements for the infrastructure
and the operational aviation processes of airports and obliges airports to
create a solid safety management system.
Since airport certification is a complicated and time-consuming process,
Riga Airport started it already in 2014. The certification process included a
revision and analysis of all operational processes to bring them in line with
the highest safety and management standards.
The certification process has now concluded and Riga Airport has been
awarded the new certificate ahead of the deadline.
Next Monday, the airport’s representatives will give a news conference on
the Latvian aviation industry’s development and challenges in 2018.
Riga International Airport is the largest air traffic hub in the Baltic
states. The airport offers flights to more than 60 destinations in the winter
season and to nearly 90 destinations in summer, operated by 20 airlines.
