Representatives of more than 40 exporting companies visit Riga airport

Representatives of more than 40 exporting companies on September 21 paid a visit to International Airport Riga to get acquainted with cargo transportation offers, the airport's spokeswoman Laura Karnite reported LETA.

The airport organized the seminar in cooperation with the Latvian Investments and Development Agency (LIAA). LIAA presented its activities in promoting exports, export guarantee measures provided by financial institution Altum, and informed on airlines and service providers who ensure cargo transportation services at the Riga airport.


According to Karnite, participants were interested in Turkish Cargo carrier. After introduction of the service, the share of Turkish Airlines in cargo transportation has risen from 2% to 6% in four months. Turkish Cargo has decided to continue service also during the winter season.


Karnite also reported that in the first eight months of this year Riga airport has served 14,000 tons of cargo, up 10% from 2016. Cargos served in August showed a 12.4% rise year-on-year.


Cargo can be shipped from the Riga airport with regular passenger airlines to more than 60 destinations, and also with regular cargo flights ensured by Turkish Cargo, DHL, UPS, TNT and four charter flights.


Latvian national carrier airBaltic is the leader in cargo transportation at the Riga airport with a 34.8% market share.
