The Port of Tallinn is planning to initiate construction work of terminal D of the passenger port in 2018 and the public tender for the construction is to be announced at the end of this year, informs LETA/BNS.

"The plan at present is that the project is to be finished by the end of the year and construction will start next year. There are both our investments as well as co-financing from the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T)," Port of Tallinn CEO Valdo Kalm told BNS.

Kalm said that the final cost of the investment will be determined as a result of the tender to be announced at the end of the year and added that terminal D needs to expanded due to the increase in the number of customers.

"It is after all the growth in the number of final customers and the arrival of the new large ferry [Tallink Megastar]. This terminal was constructed a while ago and with functionality in mind -- comfort, speed, it has all the functionalities, we want to be customer friendly and more effective," Kalm said.

"After the expansion, there will be better possibilities for embarking and quickly disembarking, there will be shorter waiting times and we want to create a humane and homely waiting area. A good example definitely is Tallinn Airport, which has good lounges with libraries and children's areas, the updated terminal will definitely also have features like these. The designing is in full swing and we will start construction as quickly as possible, we are talking about the beginning of the new year," Kalm said.
