Port of Tallinn looking for ways to restart Muuga coal terminal

Print versionEstonian port company AS Tallinna Sadam (Port of Tallinn) is looking for ways to make use of the Muuga coal terminal, which has been out of use for four years and is in talks to store cargo there, informs LETA/BNS.

Although the price of coal is low like other raw materials, the port company is looking for was to restart the coal terminal, chief of communications of the port Sirle Arro told BNS.
According to Arro, restarting the terminal is complicated as renewable energy is becoming more and more popular in Estonia and elsewhere and therefore the importance of the coal terminal for the port will decline in the long run.
"At the same time it is one of the most modern terminals on the shores of the Baltic Sea. But it is still early to speak about concrete results and a possible restarting," she added.
The coal terminal owned by the port company is operated by Coal Terminal AS.
