Lithuanian haulers suffer EUR 2 mln loss due to migrants in 2015

BC, Vilnius, 22.02.2016.Print version
Lithuania's haulage companies in 2015 suffered losses of 2 million euros due to illegal migrants, the business daily Verslo Zinios reported on Monday, citing data from Aon Baltic, the country's leading insurance broker, informs LETA/BNS.

In more than half of 70-80 cases involving Lithuanians, the driver lets migrants board his truck, it wrote.

According to Gediminas Maciulevicius, head of the Risk Solutions Department at Aon Baltic, the greatest losses are usually incurred by companies that transport food products. Such companies make up around one-fifth of all those affected by damages caused by migrants.

Lithuanian haulers say that voluntary inspection posts are understaffed and cannot handle all those willing to have their trucks checked.
