Merko signs contract on construction of Tallinn tram line extension

A consortium consisting of AS Merko Ehitus Eesti and KMG Inseneriehituse AS, and the City of Tallinn transport operator Tallinna Linnatranspordi AS signed an agreement on November 3rd to design and build the infrastructure extending the Peterburi Road tram line up to Tallinn Airport, informs LETA/BNS.

The contractor was chosen in a public procurement organized by Tallinna Linnatranspordi AS, where AS Merko Ehitus Eesti and KMG Inseneriehituse AS consortium who submitted a joint offer.

 

Under the contract, Merko Ehitus Eesti and KMG Inseneriehitus will build a tunnel under the railway and Suur-Sojamae Street starting at the u-turn near Ulemiste railway station and ending at Keevise street, followed by a new tram line extension along Keevise street to the airport, where a u-turn will be built. Additionally a new substation will be built to power the trams.

 

The value of the contract is approximately 11.5 million euros exclusive of value added tax. Construction works will start in spring 2016 and are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2017.
