On behalf of the Latvian government, Vejonis praised Ukraine's overall achievements thus far, underlining that the Eastern Partnership is a key instrument in tightening relations with the European Union.

The Latvian leader expressed the view that it is "very important to implement the Riga Summit decisions, including continued work on complying with the association agreement. As of January 1, the president added, the EU-Ukraine Free Trade Treaty will be enforced, and this hopefully will bring about closer cooperation, and in turn economic stability and development for Ukraine.

Just as important, Vejonis pointed out, is "personal contact", therefore free travel is instrumental, hence his urging Kiev to make all necessary legislative steps in this regard.
