Two Lithuanian sailors abducted in Nigeria

On October 20th afternoon, it was announced that on Monday, at 8:30 p.m. local time, a Bahamas-registered ship flying the flag of the Comoro Islands was attacked in Port Harcourt's port in Nigeria. Four members of the crew, two Lithuanian and two Ukrainian nationals, were abducted, informs LETA/ELTA.

Lithuanian Government's Deputy Chancellor Rimantas Vaitkus says that it is still unclear where the abductors took the Lithuanian sailors because they still have not contacted the vessel's owners or any authorities.

 

According to the deputy chancellor, at the moment there 14 citizens of Lithuania in ship, which was attacked on Monday. The crew is not in danger.

 

Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius has formed a working group to investigate the abduction circumstances and take care of the sailors' release.

 

Lithuania's Ministry of Foreign Affairs keeps in touch with the sailors' employers and have contacted the ship's crew.
