Latvian president emphasizes importance of infrastructure in regional development

During a meeting with Latvian Transport Minister Anrijs Matiss on Tuesday, President Raimonds Vejonis emphasized the importance of infrastructure in regional development, LETA learned from the President's Press Office.

The condition of many roads and highways needs to be improved, and improvements are also necessary in the public transport system, Matiss told the president. He mentioned the dense road network in Latvia, and the need to decide in which roads to invest.

 

Vejonis was also informed about developments in rail transport.

 

In conclusion of the meeting, Vejonis told Matiss he was open for cooperation to foster the development of transit, and urged the minister to get involved in planning Vejonis' foreign visits so they would also be in the interests of the transport sector.
