PM: new air carrier could enter Lithuanian market

BC, Vilnius, 26.05.2015.Print version
Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius has stated that airline Air Lituanica could have been supported only if it had shown some positive prospects. Air Lituanica terminated its activities on Friday, 22 May. The prime minister has mentioned that a new air carrier could be attracted to Lithuania, reports LETA/ELTA.

According to the head of Government, it is difficult to say whether sustaining Air Lituanica should have continued. Butkevicius told journalists that a company's financial situation should be known.

Next, possibilities to help a company get by short-term should be analysed constantly. However, a company must have a long-term strategic plan and demonstrate that it is capable to continue operating and making a profit. Only then such company could be supported.

Butkevicius informed journalists that in the nearest future the Government's Strategic Committee would consider the issue how to manage all three Lithuania's airports more effectively and how to attract an additional air carrier to Lithuania.
