Latvian TransMin: Riga Airport security regulations need to be revised
Yesterday's bomb threat call to the airport was the first in a long period of time, said the minister, stressing that false calls warning about explosives at the railway station have already become a "tradition". However, because the airport is obliged to follow strict security measures on a daily basis, Matiss believes that it needs to be evaluated whether the entire airport has to be closed, staff and passengers evacuated, and flights canceled or transferred to other airports.
The minister emphasized that he has ordered a revision of the airport's security procedures.
As reported, due to a bomb threat call to the Riga International Airport Monday morning, operations at the airport were suspended, passengers and staff were evacuated, and flights were delayed, the airport informed LETA.
After a police search at the airport, no explosives were found.
The airport resumed operations at about 10 a.m.
