The government approved in November 2014 the procurement of anti-tank weaponry and armored trucks from Norway.

A total of 800 "Carl Gustav" anti-tank weapons, 50 Scania trucks, and 50 "Mercedes Benz" armored vehicles were bought for EUR 4 million to increase the mobility and combat readiness of the Home Guard.

The said equipment remained in a long-term storage at Norway's armed forces, and is in good technical condition. The trucks were manufactured in a period between 1991 and 1994, and their kilometrage is 1,500 to 5,000 kilometers. The "Mercedes Benz" vehicles, on the other hand, were manufactured between 1993 and 1999.

As a result, the procurement of this equipment will significantly improve the fighting capacity of the Home Guard. These vehicles will replace obsolete units which have been used for several dozen years.

In November 2013, the Latvian Armed Forces received 134 Scania cargo trucks and eight Scania evacuation vehicles, as well as 12 "Mercedes-Benz" sanitary vehicles as a gift from the Norwegian Armed Forces.
