Millions euros worth of property may be missing from Eesti Raudtee

BC, Tallinn, 18.03.2015.Print version
Due to the chaos in the Estonian state-owned railway infrastructure company Eesti Raudtee (Estonian Railways Co) supply department, up to ten million euros worth of assets may be missing or stolen from the state-owned enterprise, writes LETA/Äripäev.

At the same time, these assets – different construction materials – can also still all exist because there is a total chaos in the materials accounting in the supply department. The whole matter can however cost Eesti Raudtee board chairman Ahti Asmann his job.

Parbo Juchnewitsch, who became a member of the board and infrastructure service director of Eesti Raudtee in August 2014, estimates that there were no regulations concerning accounting and handling of materials used in the supply department, it appears from a legal opinion by law firm Eipre & Partners that Äripäev could use.

Among other things, the deficit of usable rail tracks that were to be returned during the Tallinn-Keila-Paldiski-Riisipere railway section repairs to Eesti Raudtee can amount to more than 20 kilometres. Consequently, Juchnewitsch estimated that the cost of lost or stolen property amounted to 300,000 euros to a million euros as scrap metal. However, it calculated in cost of used road enforcement materials, the damage may reach up to 10 million euros.

Chairman of the Council Raivo Vare said that the disarray in the company created a situation where it is no longer possible to say accurately, how much of these assets have been recorded or not recorded and how much is actually missing.
